CAMEROON

  • Cameroon is slightly bigger than California, with a population of approximately 14 million.
  • The country is 55 percent French speaking and 35 percent English with the remaining speaking 24 languages.
  • It is centrally located in the west coast of the African continent.
  • The AIDS epidemic in Cameroon has had a devastating effect on the economy. Recent statistics show 40 percent of the population is infected with the AIDS virus. Because of the large amount of deaths associated with the AIDS virus, many children are left behind without anyone to take care of them.
  • The Cameroon Baptist Convention (CBC), with 42 clinics and 3 major hospitals has implemented many programs of AIDS prevention. They also have a program to care for some of the orphans resulted from losing parents to AIDS (Chosen Children Program).

Chosen Children Ministry

Chosen Children is a ministry of the Cameroon Baptist Convention (CBC). Chosen Children responds to the desperate plight of AIDS orphans in Cameroon. We have the privilege of partnering with CBC and ministering to those devastated by HIV/AIDS. Approximately every 14 seconds a child loses his/her parents through the impact of HIV/AIDS. In Africa, more than 11 million children have been orphaned by AIDS. An estimated 210,000 children under the age of 14 have lost one or both parents to HIV/AIDS in Cameroon. These overwhelming statistics represent precious children who, without help, are likely to face poverty, disease, malnutrition, and an early death.
